heath ceramics la/adam silverman

While I was in LA last week I finally had a chance to shoot Adam Silverman's studio at Heath LA. Haven't even scratched the surface in editing the images, but I knew when I shot this one I loved it. Had to share it before all others...

the standard LA/ladies loo

love the wallpaper in the Standard downtown LA ladies loo - very Marcia Brady. Frankly, the magnifying mirrors were rather a shock.

my old hoopde/

I was one of those girls in high school that drove a car older than her by over a decade. Last week I ran across this car in Pt. Reyes and suddenly became so nostalgic for my old "hoopde" as a friend used to call my car. Mine was a Dodge Lancer. The gears were push buttons up on the dash. I can't find a picture of it to save my life but this old car does the job. And the color on this baby is just like a california swimming pool...

partners & spade/nyc

A shot from Partners & Spade in nyc. I could spend quite a little while in their gallery space. Wicked sense of humor happening there.

j.b.blunk residency/

I found myself lucky enough to stay at the J.B. Blunk house again a couple of weeks ago. This is where I woke up....absolutely no complaints. I went to sleep counting the shooting stars.

ray kappe/kitchen

I mentioned last week I was looking through all my images of kitchens. I really love the quality of light in this one of Ray Kappe's kitchen.  All the window and skylight placement in his home is really phenomenal, not to mention his use of electric blue with avocado accents. Even the apron is the right blue...

Happy Friday and happy weekend friends! One more amazing image from my drive down I-5 awhile ago. I still marvel at this one. Click on it and see it bigger...it really is other worldly.

john kapel/outtake

I have been going through a bunch of images I shot awhile ago looking for pictures of kitchens for a magazine in Sweden and I happened upon this image of a detail in John Kapel's workshop. A lot of the time this is what I do...I took this shot because I was coveting Kapel's framed nautical knots. I've looked everywhere for something similar since. Every flea market and thrift store, I keep looking. Now I am pinning every nautical rope image I can find on Pinterest. I am beginning to think the answer is to take a knot tying class...it might be faster.

the beauty of decay/

I have been thinking about this for awhile. What exactly is it that I love about these structures when they are being allowed to just fall down naturally. No attempts at resuscitation, just let the wood fall to the earth when it is ready to. A gentle letting go. A decision.
There is a humanness about this shack, isn't there? The gentle lean to the side, the way the roof is coyly hanging down on one side. She used to be a beautiful woman I think...
PS. Super nice article in the Portland Daily about Handcrafted Modern. The third edition is out and about if you haven't got your copy yet.

How would you like to cook here everyday? Yeah...me too. Sorry I can't give you more details on this one. You are just going to have to wait a bit.

ocean beach/san francisco

Last Saturday, after a day of rain where I worked in my studio all day (yes, I know...all work and no play....I know....) I was heading home and my eye was drawn to the west. There was light! It had been so long since I saw proper sunlight that I just turned my car and starting driving towards it. This is what I found at Ocean Beach that day. Gorgeous post-storm beauty.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

pacheco pass/california

One thing about that absolute shit weather we have been having (I've heard it called Junuary more than once today), is that we get some gorgeous sunsets after all the rain and mayhem that Mother nature has been pulling on us. You can't really complain when the sunset looks like this.

nick's cove/marshall, ca

The shack at the end of the pier at Nick's Cove in Marshall is a very nice place to spend a rainy afternoon. But let's hope we don't have any more rainy afternoons....it is June....

wishes/battery park

Shot this when I was in NY last month. My eyes got wide when I saw all these dandelions, perfectly lit by the afternoon sun. I couldn't help but think of all the wishes that were just sitting here in the grass. Just pick one and make a wish.

sight unseen popup/paul loebach

Last image from the Sight Unseen pop up and I saved the best for last. On the second floor  (or was it the third?) in the back was a nice pairing of Lindsey Adleman's lighting and some new pieces by Paul Loebach. You can read about them here. I was kind of stunned by Loebach's Can table and light. Somehow his work taps into unexcavated memories for me. This one was of old klieg lights laying around in my grandfather's garage - and place of wonder for me as a child. I am not sure what his inspiration was and his material is shockingly bent wood, but the shape is SO klieg light from old hollywood films. Beautiful.

sight unseen popup/

These two images today are kind of random but I just really like them. I remember giggling when I shot this one with the red square because I felt like the square was somehow communing with those triangles. Geometric shapes crushing on each other from across the room. (I know...I'm a bit crazy! Ha!)
The second I shot because I Love Pencils! How silly and happy I was to see someone design a pencil sharpener? (So happy I forgot to write down who designed it. Sorry!) It is amazing how people don't use pencils anymore but I LOVE them! I write with one everyday and just bought a special eraser to keep in my bag. Best purchase I have made in awhile.

sight unseen popup/roman and williams

I am always happy to see a new bit of work from the firm Roman and Williams. This piece they did for the Sight Unseen Popup was made entirely from the catalog McMasters Carr. I loved the setting of their piece. Even the rope added to it for me.
